The Aphorism Foundation makes grants to select schools and research institutions with which Hoffman has a personal connection or interest.
In 2016, Hoffman made a $20 million pledge to Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub, a laboratory bringing together scientists from Berkeley and Stanford to pursue scientific breakthroughs in the prevention, treatment, and curing of diseases like cancer, autoimmune disorders, and neurological ailments.
Science grantees include MIT, Harvard and the University of Toronto's iSchool for programs focused on AI ethics and governance.
