Wlu Honors Alumni and Donors During 2024 Homecoming

When West Liberty University President Chuck Jeswilkowski graduated from the school in 1969, he didn't think much about what he'd do after he left.

"I didn't think about what I was going to do," he tells the Herald-Dispatch.

"I thought about how I was going to be a good president and how I was going to be a good citizen and how I was going to make a positive impact on the world."

Now, Jeswilkowski is being honored for his philanthropy.

The school's foundation has named Jeswilkowski the winner of its Impact of Philanthropy Leadership Award, "honoring his lifelong engagement in philanthropic activities at WLU," the foundation says in a press release.

The award "celebrates the transformative power of giving and the profound impact it has on our students, faculty, and the entire West Liberty University community," says the foundation's executive director.

Jeswilkowski, a West Virginia native who went on to become president of Drexel University, has given millions to the school over the years, including a $40 million gift to start the school's medical school and a $15 million donation to build a new stadium for the school's men's and women's basketball teams.
