The UN will hold its first-ever global conference on the conservation of the world's oceans in Nice, France, next year.
The conference, to be co-hosted by France and Costa Rica, will focus on supporting the implementation of a UN goal to "conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development," the BBC reports.
According to a press release, the conference will bring together governments, the UN system, international financial institutions, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, the private sector, philanthropic organizations, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities to "assess challenges and opportunities relating to, as well as actions taken towards, the implementation of Goal 14."
