Former Professional Cyclist Igor Makarov Joins Forces With Inex Club for the 2024 Charity ...

When he was a professional cyclist, Russia's Igor Makarov competed in the Tour de France.

When he's not running a hedge fund, he's cyclingand now he's giving back to the sport.

Makarov, a former member of the International Cycling Union's Management Committee, has founded the INEX Club in Cyprus, where he's lived for more than 30 years, and he's given hundreds of millions of dollars to various charity projects, including the development of cycling globally, per a press release.

"I have been living here in Cyprus for over 30 years and saw myself positive change in the culture and safety of cycling in Cyprus," he says.

"So we try not only to provide funding for over a few decades and saw myself positive change in the culture and safety of cycling in Cyprus, but also make contributions for using our experience and expertise."

The release notes that Makarov, who founded the Swiss-based Katusha team in 2009, is also a member of the UCI's Management Committee.

"Our charity initiatives are not only about helping those who need it but also about developing cycling for all globally," he says.
