Women and Philanthropy at Oakland University is making a big difference on the Michigan campus.
The group has awarded more than $100,000 in grants to nine projects, including one that will train students to identify and report child abuse, the Detroit Free Press reports.
The grants were awarded after a vote by the group, which is made up of women from campus, as well as members of the community.
"It's inspiring to hear back from the recipients about how they used the funds for their projects and/or research and to see what impact those dollars have made," says Ora Hirsch Pescovitz, president of Women and Philanthropy at OU.
Among the projects funded this year: a pilot program for early childhood students who will connect with families of infants and help reduce anxiety, as well as a 2,500-square-foot greenhouse that will be used for year-round growing and research.
